Permission to Rest: A 3-Week Somatic Series on Rest and Regulation
“Rest isn't something you measure by whether you "successfully" relaxed—it is a skill and capacity you build, and a relationship you cultivate.”
Rest is essential to how we restore, replenish, and sustain our vitality. Yet living in a culture of productivity, giving ourselves permission to slow down, step out of urgency, and simply rest doesn’t always come easily.
Permission to Rest is a three-week experiential series designed to deepen your relationship with rest through embodied practice, self-inquiry, and somatic learning. Over the three weeks, you’ll develop a greater understanding of your own nervous system, stress physiology, and patterns around rest and regulation.
Together, we’ll explore simple, personal inquiries: What happens when I pause? What makes slowing down challenging? Where am I holding effort I no longer need? What helps me soften, receive support, and rest?
Each 90-minute session weaves in prop-supported restorative yoga, gentle movement, guided mindfulness, and accessible somatic teachings, with plenty of time to slow down, settle, and experience rest.
Weekly Overview
Week 1 — Stillness & Silence
Somatic Focus: Exploring the physiology of stress, why we default to "doing," and mapping your body's response to rest.
Experience: Gentle movement to ease into stillness, supported restorative poses, and guided mindfulness meditation to support meeting what arises in the body and mind with curiosity.
Week 2 — Softness & Receptivity
Somatic Focus: Shifting from an achieving mind toward a receptive mind and exploring what helps us receive support and let go of unnecessary effort.
Experience: Gentle movement, accessible breath practice, and supported restorative poses to explore softness, receptivity, and letting go.
Week 3 — Spaciousness & Integration
Somatic Focus: Exploring simplicity, single-tasking, and micro-rests as ways to support rest and recovery in daily life.
Experience: An extended restorative practice accompanied by the live sound of a Tibetan singing bowl, to integrate the series and support deeper rest.
Space is limited to 15 participants in order to offer individualized attention and support. Participants will receive handouts with notes from each session, reflection prompts, and simple micro-practices to help integrate rest and recovery into daily life.
